PREVALENCE OF RHEUMATIC FE\ER AND RHEUMATIC HEART DISEASES IN SCHOOL CHILDREN IN DHAKA CITY.

A survey was carried out on 4,349 school children in Dhaka city during 1984 and 1985. The age group was 4 to 17 years. A total of 191 cases of Rheumatic fever (RF) and 22 cases of Rheumatic heart disease (RHO) were found giving a prevalence rate of 43.90 and 5.05 per thousand respectively. There was no significant difference in the prevalence between boys and girls. The peak incidence of RF exists in the age group of 10-12 years. The hig!:lest’ prevalence was in low socio-economic group (28.7 per thousand).
